Step 1: At first you need to visit the official e-filing website
https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal
Step 2: Now Login or Register yourself to file ITR.
If you have registered before on the portal then you have to click on ‘Login here’ button.
If you are visiting the portal for the first time then you have to click on ‘Register here’ button for a new registration.
Step 3: Now after logging yourself in click on ‘Taxpayer’ now you have to fill your PAN card details after that click on ‘validate’ button to verify your PAN details.
Step 4: Next step in learning how to file ITR is you have to provide details such as your name, address, gender, residential status, date of birth etc.
Step 5: Next, you have to provide your registered mobile number and mail id.
Step 6: After filling your form click on ‘continue’ button.
Step 7: In next step you have to verify all the given details by providing the OTP which will be sent to your registered mobile and mail id.
Step 8: After successfully verifying your details in the next step you have to pick a password and secure your login details.
Step 9: You will then have to click on ‘Register’ button, for the confirmation you will receive a message that your registration has completed successfully.
Step 10: Now the main process of how to file ITR starts.
Step 11: After logging in successfully into the portal, click on the tab ‘e-file’ and then click on ‘File Income Tax Return’
Step 12: Now, select the assessment year for which you are willing to file your ITR and click on ‘continue’
Step 13: In the next step you will be asked the mode in which you want to file your ITR which is ‘Online’ or ‘offline’ you have to select the online option.
Step 14: In the next step you have to select either you have to file ITR of an individual or a Hindu Undivided family (HUF) or others.
Step 15: In the next step you have to select the form of ITR i.e. ITR1, ITR2, and ITR4.
Step 16: Now in the forward step of how to file ITR you will be asked the reason for filing your ITR. The reasons are- above the basic exempted limit, or because of the seventh provision under Section 139(1). According to this section if the aggregate amount deposited by a single person exceeds Rs.1 crore in one or more than one current accounts during the year, More than Rs.2 lakh spent on a foreign trip, or your electricity bill exceeds more than Rs.1 Lakh then the person can file their income tax returns. Make sure to select the right option before filing the ITR.
Step 17: Now in the next step you have to provide your bank details.
Step18: In the next step you will be directed to a new page to file your ITR. The page will contain all the information regarding your ITR summary. You have to re-check all the details and then click on ‘validate’ button.
Step 19: Now the final step is to verify your returns and send a hard copy of you ITR to the Income Tax Department, remember the verification is mandatory.
